Tackling Homelessness Together: Tiny Homes 4 U Partners with Allambi Care

Last week we had the privilege of joining the team at Allambi Care for the official opening of their Tiny Homes Project at Belmont North, in the Lake Macquarie region of NSW.

It was a genuinely good day. Good cause, good people, and a real reminder of what this work is actually for.

What the project is

Allambi Care is a community organisation working to address homelessness and housing insecurity in the Lake Macquarie area. The Tiny Homes Project delivers safe, stable and affordable housing to people who need a pathway out of homelessness and into long-term housing security.

The land for the project was made available by Lake Macquarie City Council, whose commitment to affordable housing made the whole thing possible. The project also drew on investment from the NSW State Government's Homelessness Innovation Fund, which backs practical, innovative approaches to housing people in the community rather than leaving them without options.

The opening was attended by Lake Macquarie Mayor Adam Shultz and Minister Yasmin Catley MP, along with community partners and stakeholders who've been part of getting the project off the ground.

Where we came in

Tiny Homes 4 U supplied the tiny homes at the centre of the project. Our part was straightforward: build homes that are genuinely liveable, not just compliant, so the people moving in have somewhere that feels like theirs from day one.

Bunnings Warehouse also came on board, donating goods to help furnish and equip the homes, which meant residents could move into spaces that were already set up to be comfortable, not just structurally sound.

Projects like this only work when everyone shows up: council providing land, government backing the funding, a supplier delivering the homes, and a retailer helping fit them out. Allambi Care pulled all of that together, and it's the kind of collaboration that actually shifts the number of people who have somewhere safe to live.

Why this matters to us

We build tiny homes for all sorts of reasons: granny flats, holiday retreats, home offices, downsizing. But projects like the one at Belmont North are a different kind of reward. Seeing a home go from a build on our end to somewhere a person can call home, with dignity and stability attached to it, is exactly why we do this.

Thanks to Allambi Care for having us involved, and to everyone at the council, state government and Bunnings who made the day possible.
